Cool

At the beginning, I thought that the melodic line was too simple, but when the heavy bass came in, it was good. The addition of the synths made it really good, and the piano break made it great! I must say I didn't see that coming, after the break I was expecting some sort of acidized bass line, and then you hit me with the great piano line. Really interesting turn of events, I might say.

I loved the way the melodies melded with each other to form a really good feel. However, it can be seen that you ran into this 'block' that you mentioned, it does seem to end a bit abruptly.

As for the continuation of the song (should you be planning any), I would suggest taking all of the instruments in the last section and repeat their lines, and then stop to a no-drum pause with a combination of two sounds that weren't used in a combination where there were only the two of them, e.g. the piano and the first synth. That should build up another 20-30 seconds at least.

Very good stuff, nice job!

Thanks for the awesome review :D I think that will be very good to add at the end.

Great stuff

Very cool riffs, reminded me a bit of of Dew-Scented. Great, intense riffs and technical shredding with good drums. I found this song to be really interesting to listen to, good job!

Devastus responds:

Thanks, it was rather interesting to do, since I just whipped out whatever came to my mind :P

Thank you for your review.

Groovy

Very cool song, loved the funky bass and muted guitars. Reminded me a bit of the Seinfeld slap-bass theme, but it had a special old-school funk feel to it. Really good stuff!

Thank you!

Great

Beautiful soothing atmosphere, made me think of a big garden with a small stream and blooming trees. Loved the sounds you used, the slow synths really softened the song (in a good way). I believe that the water sound was a great addition to the song, but I generally find the sound of water relaxing, so I might not be objective.

Really good stuff!

DylanGlow responds:

Hey, thanks a bunch! I'm really happy to see people enjoying this. Makes me feel good about releasin' the CD. ^_^ If you read my last response to Wound then you know where I stand on the water effect as well. Thanks again Hades! ^_^

Parlor music

Loveable stuff, really had that western-like parlor music feel! The piano was really good, and the bar noises really created that old-school pub atmosphere. I loved the melody and the background noises, but I would still reduce the laughter that keeps on repeating throughout the song, it sounds a bit like some psycho-duck. :D

And btw, I agree on your thoughts on how bars used to be. Those were really good old times.

Nice job!

Phantom responds:

Thanks for the review, nice of you. Maybe laugh is a bit too used, but it feels authentic to me.

Cool

Nice oriental stuff, I loved your use of the tablas together with woodblocks and shakers. Really good Eastern-flavored song. It could probably be used well in a psychedelic movie or game, but that's just my view. Good job!

loogiesquared responds:

thanks! i'll review your stuff now.

Kickass!

Man, great old-school thrash song! The vocals were really good, probably the best non-growling vocals on the A-portal I've heard in a long time, sounded like a mix between Dave Mustaine and Lemmy. Cool riffs, really reminded me of Megadeth, and a great solo, both the shredding and the more melodic bits. I don't think anything needs improving, except maybe reducing the distortion on the screams a bit, they sound a bit too artificial this way (it could also be because of the many recorded layers). Really heavy stuff, great work.

OctaneVein responds:

Dude, Lemmy is like one of my favorite vocalists! Mustaine is pretty cool too, but I'm getting a bit tired of the comparison. Anyway thanks for the review \m/

Cool

This is a very groovy song with a good beat and very relaxing melodies, but i think you should EQ-out the first synth's background noise, it sounds a bit distorted. I liked the voice sample you used and the overall spacey-feel. Nice stuff!

yeah, that's one of my favourite quotes of all time.

Hm...

This isn't bad, but you might consider making a more defined lead-melody, this one was just too random and improvisational to be listenable easily. Also, try not to have the 'Pan' of the slide/bend tone all the way to the right. Believe me, it can get really annoying if you're wearing headphones. With some more tweaking, this could turn out to be a good song. Oh, and try to set some reverb for all of the tracks to make them sound a bit less hollow-sounding, it helps most of the time.

neojohnguy responds:

thanks, ill take that into consideration. I didnt even realize the pan was to the right; I wasn't using headphones when I made this, just my laptop speakers. I put a small amount of reverb but not to the lead and minimal on the bassline. I'll try putting more and see how it sounds

Cool percussions

This is a good percussion-only song, but I'm not exactly sure I would put it under 'techno' (yeah, I know 'miscellaneous sounds awfully repulsive :D). Really good beat and very wide array of used percussions (I liked all of them, but the hi-hat you used was a bit too sharp-sounding). Interesting stuff to listen to, but you might consider adding some bass and synths and making it a whole different song. A song with this as a rythm section can't be bad.

Nice job!

nidi617 responds:

Thanks alot!

I write music. You listen to music. What a strange coincidence, isn't it?
