Interesting

Nice build of piano melody you've got there, but making the notes last longer (if not echo a bit) would make it a lot more powerful, especially when you've chosen the theme of vengeance. Staccato notes just don't have the punch for such a setting. Also, replacing the drum sound that comes in at about 1:43 with something else, such as a kick, would greatly improve the atmosphere of the song, when it's taken into account that this sounds something between a rim-hit and a muted conga (it makes the song feel a bit softer than it could be). Adding a bit more bass to the guitar riffs would also make them pack more punch, thus adding greatly to the overall feeling. Since these are all pretty much technical complaints, I gave you a 4/5 and an 8/10, because this could really be a great song if you made some minor tweaks. Nice job.

Great ska/rock song!

Very cool song, I liked the riffs, drums and background brass sections. The vocals were excellently recorded, just like the rest of the song, and the lyrics were very amusing. It's a truly good song, and every aspect of it just oozes with coolness. You obviously put a lot of effort into it, it's great! Nice work, I really had fun listening to it!

Monkeywithumbs responds:

Well, shucks, Hades! The lyrics are sort of amusing...lol. Thanks so much for the kind words!

Great stuff

This song is really something, you must've put a whole lot of thought into it, since it is really well developed. The advancing melodies and intertwining of different instruments really created a mighty atmosphere, I could almost imagine the endless landscape of frozen plains. I loved the sounds you used, especially the xylophone-like bells and high piano notes (which were, in my opinion, the main cause why this sounds like an ice-ambient song). At first I thought you were going to keep it on these commonly used ambient instruments, and then you really surprised me with the use of bass and drums. Also, you made the right choice when you didn't use too loud rides in the beat (or use them too often), this simple more kick/snare oriented variant with the occasional crash cymbals fitted the mood of the song in a much better way. The use of synth leads was also very well balanced, seeing that using them usually results in a bit more aggressive feel than this tranquil setting. I can't find any notable things that might require changing, it's EQed perfectly, and has just the right amount of reverb.

Great job, keep it up!

Really nice

Great song, I really liked your idea and concept of a song with voice-acting from Resident Evil. The melodies were really good, and I liked the sounds you used. The beat was good, but slightly repetative, e.g. some changes in spaces between separate hi-hat hits would probably help change the mood (unless you were aiming for a constant beat, in that case it's just fine ;D). Very good song, good job!

P.S. Mind reviewing my last song? ;)

SkyMarshall responds:

Thanks man :) Glad you like it. The beat is as you say, constant through the whole thing. On purpose indeed, but you might be right it could have done better with a little differences. I do split it up into breakbeat in the middle, but maybe you're right. Thanks for the perfect 10 and the review, mate.

I will review your song when vacation is done :)

Depressing

Really good ambiental stuff, you really hit the right 'depressed' feel with the slow background synths, heavy bells and high-pitched noises. I liked the way you didn't attempt to make a clearly defined melody in order of achieving the chaotic feeling of sadness. Liked it a lot, hope you get a good position on the MAC!

Flash-MX responds:

Thank you very much! I was going over and over a few melodies and chord progressions, but I felt that the real, real sad feeling comes from almost atonal sounds, musical indifference in other words,
Thanks again!

Nice stuff

Great neo-classical work, I really liked the progressions and melody. The first part sounded a lot like the usual profile of video-game battle themes common to the RPG genre, with replacing different piano sections with other sound you could probably get a really good song in that genre. The following part reminded me of a mix of standard baroque piano pieces and heavy villain themes from different cartoons. The only thing I could complain about is the piano sounding a bit too artificial, but you managed to reduce that feeling with major variations within the song's loudness. Great work!

Xyirx responds:

Oh, a very nice review indeed. This one, actually, I want to make it somehow like Beethoven style, that's why you might say it's baroque. I composed this by Fruity Loops, so that maybe why the piano sounds artificial. Gotta find better samples. :)

Thank you again for listening, and of course, a great review.

Cool stuff

Really nice song, reminded me a bit of a theme song for some TV series, but I just can't recall which one. The beginning's separated-chords guitar was really nice, and it fitted very nicely with the slightly overdriven lead-fills. The part at 1:04 was a bit heavier, but still very relaxed (probably due to the chord progression). 1:36 reminded me a bit of the style of the Red Hot Chill Peppers, with only the bass in the background and the guitar playing a lead melody. All in all- really nice stuff, can't wait to see what more you can make out of this! Good job!

tijnn responds:

Zhank y00 very much smexi.

Experimental

I see what you were trying when you were making this song, making this more of an art-performance than an actual track, but I have a feeling you would've made more of an impression playing this at a live performance, the public on NG might not be so open to this sort of music. Had the sound of the drone not been so irritating, it would've been much more amusing to listen to, with all of the bends and discreet drums. Should you replace the analog sound with a softer, string sound, it would probably be a really good atmospheric, ambiental piece. Interesting stuff.

Cool stuff

Great song, I liked the use of turntable-scratch sounds together with disto/guitars, gave it a new-school metal sort of feel, but in the good way. Very interesting way of building a song, really didn't expect the philtered synths to come in. The beginning guitar melody was good, even good enough not to get boring through the song. However, I would've moved the pan a bit closer to the center, just to keep the beginning of the song left-sideless (just an opinion, anyway). All in all- the song is really great, I liked it a lot and found it very interesting to listen to. Great job.

metallikid6 responds:

Thank you so much! Yeah, this song was inspired by Rap-Metal when it was a good idea in 2000. I used to really be into bands like Limp Bizkit & Linkin Park, and this song was to kind of pay homage to that era. (I still like LP, but they're dif. now. Gave up on LB after Chocolate Douche =P).

Thanks for the review and helpful critique about the panning. It really means a lot to me.

Good

Not bad for a RPG game, probably as a in-town theme. Reminded me of the music from the game Guardian's Crusade. Liked it, the sounds were really nice, and the melodies were relaxing. Good stuff!

I write music. You listen to music. What a strange coincidence, isn't it?
