Out of the block, hopefully

Well, I liked the song's melodies a lot, but I always find that shorter strings (especially when using the same note more than once in a row) sound sort of hollow without a bassline in the background. The drums were good, but I found the snare to be a bit too artificial, with each hit sounding exactly the same. Some volume modification in order of accentuating certain notes would probably be enough to aid this problem. As the song progresses, it gets a lot better, but the trumpets at the end have the same problem as the strings in the beginning, in my view. All in all, it's a good song, but could use some tweaking.

HMS-Productions responds:

could use a LOT of tweaking imo, i've locked this song away for good.

I learned a lot from this song though, what not to do and what not to do so in the end I'm glad I put it up.

Glad to see you back and thanks for the review :D

Great middle-eastern song

Excellent stuff, you really hit the spot of a desert setting with the use of oriental scales and instruments that sound fitting to the theme. The sound was really cool, but I believe you should have stuck with the tablas instead of adding usual drums, the rythm section in the part at 0:27 didn't sound like it exactly fit the whole idea (unless, of course, if you were in fact aiming for a more modern setting, so I don't think anyone should deduce any points on that account). I really loved the atmosphere, the detail you gave to the sounds and the intertwining of different instruments. This could very easily be used in a flash game, seeing that it has a great exotic feeling and loops perfectly.

Great work!

wooooooooooo that was a long reivew.........

im very glad you liked it overall and your right about 27 but i WAS going for a kinda-modern version

Great song

Well, you really gave your best with making this one, the synths are great and the melodies were very nice. The beginning with the bass made me believe you were going for a more dark-oriented song, but the rest of the progressions made this a really cool and relaxing tune, whilst keeping it very energetic and powerful. The melodies reminded me of a mix of old video-game music and punk-rockish leads. Really interesting combination, it made the entire song really stand out from the rest of the songs in it's genre.

I personally found the repetition a quite good addition to building up the entire atmosphere, if you used more different sections, it would have ruined the whole feel of every sound blending in with the others which you have created. Also, the drums had an important role in this, and gave the steady beat necessary for building up a mighty song like this one.

Really great work, keep it up!

Thanks for the comments, Hades. :) A lot of my music is very influenced by video games and I was big into the local punk scene years ago. I've met my quota for track posts for today so I'll be uploading more as the days go on. :) Hopefully there'll be more you like.

Interesting stuff

Very interesting choice of sounds, I liked the first synth you used and the phasing effect you added to it. The piano was very cool, but I believe you should have held the notes a bit longer, this way it seems sort of cut-off. The beat was very steady and fit in very well with the rest of the song.

The House in the title isn't the genre, right? I'm guessing it's the TV show, but maybe that's because it's on TV right now. :P

Anyway, great stuff! Nice job!

Intelligible-Blur responds:

I'll keep this in mind next time I make a song similar to this.

Happy synth

Really fun stuff, I loved the way that it kept being more and more amusing with every loop. Great work, I loved the synth you used, it fit in very nicely with the bass-line.

Grindcore FTW!

Awesome, you really hit the spot with this, it's probably the most amusing GC song I've heard in a long time (and you know how many ten second-songs fit in a long time). Really great stuff, made me laugh like hell.

speedmetalmessiah responds:

Awesome man, glad to hear it. Was fun to make something so short.

Funky!

This reminded me of some prehistoric-themed video game I used to play as a kid (probably due to the type of drum beat in the background). At first, the bend synth sounded as though it could build up to be annoying if it would last longer, but you managed to neutralize this with the higher chip sound and make it a cool melody. The part from 0:32 was an excellent bridge section, it really fitted very nicely as a continuation of the song. I would, however, suggest adding something after it to blend better with the beginning of the song, simply because the transfer from more sounds straight to one sound without any transition usually sounds a bit too cut-off. Also, the sound that you popped in every now and then (every four beats?) was a really cool addition to strengthen the rythm and create a better feeling, and so were the phased parts. Really nice, this could be used in a game very soon if someone would happen to need a chippish videogame song for his flash. I'll make sure to mention this if any such requests appear on the forum.

Again, great work!

alternativesolution responds:

Before I rendered this as an mp3, it looped perfectly as a .wav file. But you're right, adding something to the end would help it loop better. *heads off to do just that* Thanks again! :D <3

Interesting

Very freaky choice of instruments, I found it to be very psychedelic. At the beginning, I thought you were going for a classical-like heavy song, you already had me wondering on the choirs and really finished me off with the L/R panned hi-hats at the end. This is more of an experimental piece, if you ask me, and it was really interesting listening to it! Good work, just keep on building upon this and it will turn out to be a great song!

Btw, if you have the time, check out my latest VG submission, you might like it!

Well...

It would be a much better song with some better guitar synths, and believe me, I know just how hard it is to find good ones. The problem with the sounds you used is: the low notes sound to much fading-in, and the high melody sounds like it's being played on a keyboard, because of the sound. The bass-line, however fitted the whole concept of the song very nicely, the melodies were nice and the drums were ok. Another thing that would improve this greatly is adding some more length, seeing that you should put in some more melodies other than the usual one and the improvisational part. With some improvements, this could turn out to be a great song, so I suggest you just keep on working on it for a while longer!

OvalsinOuterSpace responds:

thanks i did use organ synths

Epic

I remember this song from Sonny, it's one of the most epic battle-background songs I've ever heard, but I had no idea you composed it (guess I didn't pay attention to the audio information :P). I love the way you used the strings and timpani to create this epic and very dramatic feel, something like the songs from 'The Gladiator OST'. Also, the use of bells is a major advantage of this song, as they add a very intense rythm to the piece. The melody was very nice and well-developed, but at the same time it was very powerful, and adrenaline-packed. As always- a great song, nice work!

DavidOrr responds:

I wrote all the music for Sonny (minus the overworld music, which was wonderfully written by Martijn Vranken), and I'll be writing the music for Sonny 2 as well! Glad you enjoyed the music! Hopefully you'll find the music for Sonny 2 equally as engaging!

I write music. You listen to music. What a strange coincidence, isn't it?
